Mexico Hosts WBSC 15U World Baseball Championship

By: tjo - 12 Sep 2026 - 470 views

Twelve national baseball teams are set to compete for the WBSC 15U World Championship beginning September 25 in Mexico.

The cities of Cancun and Merida will each host a six team group with the top two teams of each group facing off for the Gold and Bronze medals in Kukulcan Alamo Park in Merida, Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The teams in each group follow:

Group A (Mérida): Japan, Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Germany, South Africa

Group B (Cancún): Chinese Taipei, USA, Venezuela, Australia, Czechia, Nicaragua

2024 Champion Japan would certainly be considered one of the favorites to repeat this year, but 2024 runner-up Puerto Rico failed to qualify for this year's event. Chinese Taipei, Bronze medalist two years ago, returns, however, and could once again prove a formidable foe in the event.

As always, teams not only vie for the title in the event, but they also earn points which count toward a federation’s standing in the world baseball rankings.

Currently Japan is ranked #1 followed closely by Chinese Taipei and the USA.
